George Couros starts this podcast with a story about a times table game he used to play in school. This leads to a reflection about helping people and being competitive. 16:26 Andrew Maxey
20:27 Amy Gonzales
23:57 Closing
George Couros opens this highlight video with a powerful response to the commonly asked interview question, “what questions do you have for us?” This advice is one that Couros heard during a conversation and the response gives an opportunity for both applicants and the interview panel to reflect on their practices and their success criteria. Couros shares these thinking points as an intro to the amazing guests from April 2022's Best of The Innovator's Mindset Podcast!
Dr. Will Deyamport: A Business of One
Entrepreneur and “intrapreneur” - how do we create a business of one by honing in on what skills we have learned and created for ourselves. Dr. Will shares ways that we can create a business of one for ourselves and use our skills and knowledge we have learned to create opportunities for ourselves.
Chris Kennedy: Disruptions in Routine and Building Connections
George Couros reflects on a practice followed by Chris Kennedy who places associate principals in place for longer so they have a mentor and works to build consistency. Previously, the idea was that every 3-5 years, a new admin would come in. In Kennedy’s schools, he works to create consistency in administration. Kennedy shares how innovative practices can come from consistency.
The two continue the conversation and reflect on how it’s not always about what you know, it is who you’re connected to. Chris Kennedy reflects on a time when he leveraged his network to get answers from followers on a job interview question. Hear more about this in the full episode of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: "To Innovate, Disrupt Your Routine" - A Convo with Chris Kennedy.
Becca Ribbing: When to Stick with it and When to Move Forward
When do you decide when this is something that you need to stick with and when do you decide to take a different direction? Becca Ribbing talks about starting something new, creating connections, and thinking in a new way. Ribbing reflects how we can recognize when something is not working while understanding that, at the beginning, it will be a challenge and there will be a learning curve. Ribbing shares how the work can get easier the more we do it and how we need to recognize the struggle at the beginning of the path.
Andrew Maxey: Knowing the Learners We Serve
What are some suggestions or strategies that will help teachers get to know their students better? Andrew Maxey shares his answer to this question in this clip from The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: The Elephant in the Classroom - A Convo with Andrew Maxey.
Amy Gonzales: Personalized Self-Care
In this clip of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: Addressing the Needs of the Whole Teacher - A Convo with Amy Gonzales, Gonzales reflects on how she recognizes that self-care is something different for each person. In this clip of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast, Gonzales talks about how she models her own self-care and how this helps her staff recognize that they need to take time to meet their own needs. Gonzales shares how she uses Google Forms to hear the needs of their staff members.
