What if we focused on a few things and took time to reflect on, connect with, and process those ideas? When we take ideas and put them into action, we are able to be both consumers and creators of content. George Couros shares a story from his time as a referee where applying the learning, or the feedback given, happened right away. How many times do we read a book looking for a specific answer and then do nothing with the information we learned? Think about this podcast - what will you do with this information after you listen or watch? George Couros shares more about what he calls the “sponge factor.” Throughout this episode, Couros encourages listeners and viewers to consider what can be created because of the content you are consuming!
Quotes (PIP):
How do you go beyond consumption to create a product showing your learning?
What if we focused on a few things and took time to reflect on, connect with, and process those ideas?
What will you create because of this?

Dr. Marcus Belin and George Couros share their thoughts on the response to administrators that says “that is why you make the big bucks.” Dr. Belin and Couros reflect on how administrators hear that comment and it often comes off as an excuse to treat them poorly. Couros reminds us that “it is not about top down, bottom up, it is about all hands on deck.” In the intro of this episode, Couros shares some reflections about his time as an administrator and how connecting with kids would remind him why he did what he did. Dr. Belin reflects on the struggles many administrators have and shares some powerful stories about the role he has as a principal in a school of nearly 3,000 students. No matter our role, we are all doing what is best for kids.

Miller reflects on learners who believe they were terrible students because they were limited by the traditional learning environment. This clip of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: Success in a Way that is Meaningful to Them - A Convo with Kim Miller and Shelley Groves answers this question which is posed by Miller: "How do we make the learning environment more focused on how the students learn?"
Matt Woods - I Wanna Be... - Matt Woods
Matt Woods and George Couros talk about social capital and how that can be built by spending time greeting parents and learners in the hallways. Woods and Couros talk about suspensions and difficult conversations that administrators often have to have with parents and how those conversations are made less tenuous when you have a relationship with the parent. Woods reflects on how the work that we put in years ago, laying the foundation of relationships, can pay dividends in the future.
Adam Torrisi - The Intentional Educator - A Convo with Adam Torrisi
Adam Torrisi reflects on ways to support our learners as they feel anxiety or stress over returning to school. Torrisi, who works as a vice principal and speaks with athletes, teams, and clubs through his program, The Intentional Athlete, reflects on the advice he shares with his staff and athletes. Torrisi reminds us, “You cannot live in a world where you are not allowed to make mistakes.” Torrisi shares all this and more in the full episode of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: The Intentional Educator - A Convo with Adam Torrisi.

Adam Juarez and Kat Goyette The Complete EdTech Coach - A Convo with Adam Juarez and Kat Goyette
In this clip of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: The Complete EdTech Coach - A Convo with Adam Juarez and Kat Goyette, Couros asks the co-authors of The Complete Ed Tech Coach these questions:
What is best for kids?
How does this improve learning?
If we were to do _________, what is the balance of risk vs. reward?
Is this serving the few or the majority?
These questions, from a blog post written by George Couros, spark a conversation about the learners we serve and how the technology we have impacts learning.
George Couros - 4 Ideas to Improve Personal Well-Being
A very vulnerable solo podcast with George Couros who reflects on a time when he needed to take some time off and how the administrators he worked with, including Kelly Wilkins, reminded him that if he didn’t take care of himself, he couldn’t take care of the learners he was supposed to be serving. This episode The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast reminds us to embrace the opportunity to catch our breath and support those who need the same. Couros reminds us to go enjoy things outside of our jobs, to understand that there is no endpoint, try to do fewer things better, and find people that give you energy.

“The dreams that you have are sometimes just a question away.” -George Couros
George Couros shares that this podcast is inspired by his mom who taught him that it never hurts to ask! It is better to ask and hear “no” than it is to not ask and never know. Couros shares two powerful examples - one from his personal and one from his professional life - where asking a question created an opportunity to turn a dream into a reality!

"Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of a great teacher can be transformative." - George Couros
This opening quote from George Couros sets the theme of this episode of The Innovator’s Mindset Podcast: The Complete EdTech Coach - A Convo with Adam Juarez and Kat Goyette. Juarez, Goyette, and Couros talk about how we can make the standards work with technology as long as the focus remains on the learning we are working to achieve. However, as noted in this episode, it is not just about learning and technology - when we also think about who we are working to serve, that is when we meet the important aspects of learning. This episode reflects on how to keep a focus on who we are serving and moving backward from that to connect the curriculum and enhance that with the use of technology. Juarez and Goyette also share some of the topics they discuss in their book, The Complete Ed Tech Coach, and the work they are doing with #techrodeo!

George Couros shares an idea that he has been struggling with - dealing with the naysayers and recognizing the praise from others. In this episode, Couros reminds us to evaluate ourselves and do things that are true to us and who we are. Adam Grant shared this in a tweet: "The time people spend building personal brands would be better invested in personal connections. Products have brands. People have relationships and reputations. Authenticity is not about marketing yourself to create an image. It’s about aligning your actions with your values.” After sharing and reflecting on this quote, Couros has this advice: "Appreciate the kindness of strangers, but care more of what you think of yourself, that is the one person you will wake up with every day."
Quotes (PIP):
Don't get caught up in the negatives - this doesn't mean don't take criticism - but also, don't get too caught up in the praise of others.
