George Couros shares that he is recording this episode from Central Florida where he is preparing for hurricane Ian. The anxiety he is feeling because of what Ian will bring, made Couros feel a little more productive. These thoughts connect to the story of David and Goliath and how we can rethink what our strengths and weaknesses truly are. Couros reflects on the benefits of his own struggles and how he is shifting his own thinking to see how, if we utilize our weaknesses, they can be our strengths.

George Couros starts this podcast by talking about being there for the moments, small and big, consistently. Following this brief reminder, Couros goes into the routines he has both when traveling and at home. During this intro, he shares a pet peeve that he has about not putting the weights where they belong while at the gym. This makes it harder for the person after them to find what they need - and in some cases, the weights may be too heavy for someone after them to pick up. There are some locations that George has visited where the people actually put their weights back where they belong on a consistent basis - that is part of the gym’s culture. This connects to taking on the responsibility and not simply doing only a portion of it, but actually following through with the task to the end and doing it in a way that embodies the culture you want to create at your school site.

George Couros starts this episode with a reflection about how he still uses a counting strategy that he learned from his kindergarten teacher called chisanbop, and how he is now passing this idea on to his daughter, Kallea! Couros then shares a personal story about his two dogs who are getting older in age and how he has enjoyed getting to take them for walks, a regular routine that came about because of a dreaded roadtrip. Couros also reflects on the worry he felt about driving a long distance with dogs and how this resulted in a closer connection between him and the dogs. These stories are all shared with the same message in mind - sometimes the things we dread the most can help the most.
