Jimmy Casas joins this episode of Epic Book Review to talk about Culturize which came out in 2017! Couros begins this podcast with a story from a time he visited Casas at his school back when he was a principal.. The story shared is a reminder that how we make others feel through our daily interactions matters. Casas shares that he is hosting a 2-day workshop running from October 24-25, 2023 in Chicago. The focus of this workshop is to improve the overall culture of a campus. Casas and Couros go in depth as they discuss how we apply our learning, create a culture on a school campus, and develop leadership skills. In this episode of Mindset Monday on a Sunday, George Couros reflects on the idea that criticism provides important feedback which creates the opportunity to implement new and better ideas for learning from others. Couros considers when criticism would be most beneficial using the example of publishing a book - is it better to be criticized before the book is released or after? This leads to a few powerful stories about why it is better to criticize ourselves before others get the chance. This episode shares not only ways to take criticism but to also give criticism in a productive way. This episode focuses on the idea of effort and throughout the next five weeks, Couros will take viewers and listeners through the five situations he wrote about in The Innovator’s Mindset: effort, challenges, obstacles, criticism, and the success of others.
As you listen to or watch this episode, consider ways to overpromise and over-deliver. How can expectations be set incredibly high and then how can we surpass those things?
